Saturday, April 18th, Rainwater Harvesting Presentation & Open Studio 10am-noon Collaboration for Community Event - with Green Bee and Transforming Terrain

Join us at the Casa Kira studio for a rainwater harvesting workshop led by Jonah of Transforming Terrain and facilitated by GreenBee Wholistic Home Services. Learn how you can earn up to a $2000 tax credit for creating passive rainwater systems in your yard, and save money on watering as well.

In addition to the workshop, you will be able to tour Casa Kira's Sonoran desert tortoise enclosure built in accordance with the Sonoran Desert Museum's specifications and planted with native edible tortoise food. Kira will be on hand to answer questions about Sonoran desert tortoise enclosures, how you can properly build one, plant edibles for the tortoise, and apply to adopt one of the many desert tortoises that need homes.

At this second event with Green Bee, explore the benefits of rainwater harvesting and how you can more easily implement this permaculture principal at your home.

Art in the Gardens invites you to see the beautiful, unique, quirky gardens and artworks of the Palo Verde Neighborhood! Featuring a raffle fundraiser.

The event is a walking tour of participating gardens, and at each garden you’ll find a few artists with their work on display and available for sale. Enjoy surprises along the way including music performances.

Sunday, February 15th, Open Studio & Garden 11am-1pm
Let's gather together at the Casa Kira studio space where we will enjoy a demonstration on how to harvest, prepare, cook and (safely) eat nopal cactus! Guests will be able to take home a plenty of nearly thornless variety of prickly pear pads. Start your own nopal garden, or simply eat them at home later. ( they are also a favorite tortoise food for those who are caretakers.)
--- please RSVP so we know how many to prepare. And if you'd like to take any home, please also bring a container so we can keep this an eco friendly event.

In addition to the nopal(s), you are welcome to bring your extra plants or seeds to share with others for our **Free Plant & Seed Swap!** -- bring a plant/some seeds and take some plants/seeds
--- and to ensure you have all the plant knowledge you'll need, GreenBee Hive experts will be onsite to answer your garden related questions.

You will also be able to tour Casa Kira's Sonoran desert tortoise enclosure built in accordance with the Sonoran Desert Museum's specifications and planted with native edible tortoise food. A representative will also be attending from the Southern Arizona Animal Food Bank to accept donations for pets in need. Attendees are welcome to donate pet toys, food, pet bedding, and other pet supplies.

The studio doors will open on April 10th at 10 AM for shopping and browsing. Make your way through the studio and into the spacious backyard & Desert Garden behind the Casa Kira studio. to meet several up-and-coming Tucson artists who will be displaying their work, and process.

Featured artists are Liam Wallace, Jada Wehner, and Kimberly Castro.

The Studio will also be open for jewelry shopping. Please wear a mask and give space.

I first met Liam Wallace at open studio tour in the garden at the Casa Kira studio. We had community art projects happening back there, and he sat and sketched most of the day. I was blown away by the gorgeous art he had made in a single afternoon, and now I am thrilled to have him back at the studio participating as a participating artist in this upcoming open house

Thanks to an outpouring of support from our local artists and community, we’re having a second chance raffle on February 28, 5 PM.

An event Encore! I was touched by those who stopped in last Saturday to contribute to my community offend. Was lovely to see your smiling eyes!!
So we're doing it again on Halloween Day.
The day of the dead is especially meaningful this year of 2020. As I usually do, I have put up my ofrenda at the Casa Kira studio.
